About this object
A panoramic photograph of a large celebration on Marine Parade circa 1925.

The image depicts a large crowd gathered around the band rotunda in front of the Masonic Hotel. Inside the band rotunda two men are speaking to the crowd. A young woman dressed in a cloak and holding a mace is seated. The woman may be the Carnival Queen of the Napier Mardi Gras. Several other young women are also seated on the stage.

A large Ferris wheel is visible at the right of the image in front of the Masonic Hotel. A boy is climbing at the top of the wheel. The start of Emerson Street is visible at the left of the Masonic Hotel. The Council Chambers building at the right of the image facing Tennyson Street has been significantly altered from its original windows and frontage. Another photographer is perched above the head level of the crowd taking a photograph looking at the participants on the band rotunda stage.
