About this object
A black and white photograph of the 1915 Napier Mardi Gras parade.

The image depicts a float consisting of the constructed figure of a large bear half raised up on its hind quarters. The front of the bear is resting on the cab of what appears to be a flatbed truck. The cab and surrounds that the model bear is standing on are decorated with fabric and ribbon.

The original label on the photograph reads : The Russian Bear. People are standing on the balcony observing the carnival in the Victorian building in the background of the image.
