About this object
View of the Napier Gas Company building on Hastings Street, Napier, thought to have been taken in 1933. The photograph has been taken from an elevated position on the opposite side of Hastings Street looking towards Marine Parade.

The building is in the process of construction. A sign at the front of the site identifies E A Williams as the architect of the new building. Suburban Land and Construction Company Limited are identified as the builder and contractor. The foundation is yet to be laid but the fabric of the walls has started to take shape. Men are visible at work on the site.

To the left of the Napier Gas Company building, a multi-storey building is in the process of being constructed or modified.

Tram lines are visible in the foreground.
