About this object
A photograph of the Port Ahuriri School float for a Coronation Parade.

The parade was held in celebration of the coronation of King Edward VII in August 1902. The image of the large float depicts it laden with children and foliage. The children are seated rows of diminishing numbers leading to the top of the float. At the central apex of the float a large tree fern (likely a ponga, mamaku or katote, all types of Cyathea) is visible. The remaining decorative foliage is attached to the tree and the corners of the float along a rope or string. At opposite ends of the float are two flag poles. One is a New Zealand flag and the other is of a Lion Rampant, possibly the Royal Standard of Scotland.

At the front of the float a man in a suit is standing with a girl dressed in white looking at the camera. The children from Port Ahuriri School are holding Union Jack flags. Some children look decidedly more exuberant than others. At the rear of the float another woman and man are visible, possibly teachers from the school.
