Brief Description
Letter from Theodore Haultain Wellington, to George Whitmore dated 16 January 1869. Haultain writes that he has received confirmation of the victory at Ngatapa on 5 December 1868 and sends his congratulations to Whitmore over Te Kooti. Writes of the excellent service of Major's St John and Fraser and the subsequent promotion of both to the rank of Lieutenant-Colonel. Also states that His Excellency will send personal thanks to the Arawa and Ngatiporou contingents for their loyalty and service, and mentions the loss of Captain Brown.
