About this object
A photograph of the Vulcan Foundry float for the New Napier Carnival Parade, January 1933. The New Napier Carnival, held from 21 to 28 January 1933, celebrated the opening of Napier after the 1931 Hawke's Bay earthquake.

The image depicts a the Vulcan Foundry float either before or after the parade near the railway line, possibly off Station Street. The signage on the float reads: The Vulcan Foundry , Support Local Industry. The float imitates the work of the foundry with an iron stove, vices and other foundry equipment in "use" by a group of men. The men are dressed in overalls, white shirts, braces and caps.

There are two people along the roadside at the left of the photograph. One man is standing near a motorcycle. The other person is dressed in pale colours and holding a cane or stick.
