About this object
View of a whare in the Waikato taken on 23 January 1898. A note on the album page on which the photograph has been mounted refers to the structure as being located in Hatepe, which is located on the east side of Lake Taupo.
The whare is in a poor state of repair. The raupo used on the front wall of the structure has been lost in places, revealing the internal lining. The thatched raupo roof has slumped on the left hand side of the building. The whare is closely surrounded by trees and shrubs.
A carving rests against the front façade on the right hand side of the building.
