About this object
A photograph of the Vulcan Foundry float in the New Napier Carnival Parade, January 1933.

The New Napier Carnival, held from 21 to 28 January 1933, celebrated the opening of Napier after the 1931 Hawke's Bay earthquake. The image depicts a the Vulcan Foundry float on Marine Parade. The signage on the float reads: The Vulcan Foundry, Henry Williams and Sons Ltd. Electric Welding Specialists Cheapest & Best By Test, Support Local Industry. The float imitates the work of the foundry with an iron stove, vices and other foundry equipment in "use" by a group of men. The men are dressed in overalls, white shirts, braces and caps. There is a young man at the head of the float. The float appears to be a covered flat bed truck.

Spectators are visible along the sea front of Marine Parade behind the float. Several children are milling around the back of the float. The sea wall and a Norfolk Pine are visible in the background of the image.
