About this object
A photograph of the winning float in the one horse decorated float category at the inaugural Napier Mardi Gras, 1913.

The driver, horse and decorated cart are pictured on Marine Parade on the 26 December 1913. The float features bags of cement decorated with flax. The sign on the right hand side of the float reads: Golden Bay Cement, Give us a trial with your next order, F.G. Smith & Co, Agents, Port Ahuriri. The horse is decoratively saddled and dressed with braided head gear. What appears to be a German flag is attached atop the horse's saddle. A dog is seated at the driver's foot.

Another bridled horse is visible behind the category winners. A man in walking down Marine Parade in the background at the right of the image. Norfolk Pines and the sea wall are also evident.
