About this object
A photograph depicting a procession heading south down Napier's Marine Parade in the early 1900s.

The photograph centres on a horse drawn float reading : Advance Australia. It is possible that the float may have been part of the celebratory processions for the Imperial Troops' visit, 1901. The Advance Australia float is followed by several other floats and what appear to be cavalrymen on horseback.

Spectators are visible on both sides of the Norfolk Pine lined Marine Parade. Bluff Hill is visible in the background at the top left of the image.
