About this object
View of the Masonic Hotel taken from the intersection of Hastings Street and Tennyson Street, possibly in the early 1890s. The proprietor of the hotel at the time that the photograph was taken was Frank Moeller, who took over management of the hotel on News Years Day in 1892. His name appears above the door located on the corner of the building. Several shops are located along the Hastings Street side of the hotel building. Tenants of these spaces include the Napier Hat Factory run by Burnet and Company (hatters and mercers), E J Beresford (tobacconist), and R T Smythe (bookseller and stationer). A group of men pose for the photograph in front of the hotel.

The Bank of Australasia is visible further along Hastings Street.
