About this object
A photograph depicting Emerson Street decorated for the parade and ceremonies surrounding the Imperial Troop Visit to Napier in February 1901. The street is decorated with strings of flags in a bunting style.
The photograph is taken from a shop awning above the procession looking down the street towards Marine Parade. A woman seated on a shop awning is visible at the right of the image watching the parade. Other spectators are visible in and atop various buildings and in the street below.
A single man in military uniform on horseback leads the procession. More casually attired cavalrymen on horses ride alongside. Behind them a brass band are visible marching and playing. More soldiers are marching in rows all the way along the street into the distance.
A man is perched near the top of the lamp post at the left hand side of the image near W Dodds' tailor shop.
The shop awnings and posts along the street are decorated with young saplings and foliage.
