About this object
A photograph of the Veronica Sunbay on Marine Parade in Napier. Built in 1934, the structure was given its name in 1937 when the bell from the HMS Veronica was given to the city as a memento of the assistance that the ship's crew gave in the aftermath of the 1931 Hawke's Bay earthquake. In the foreground, the New Napier Arch, part of the Colonnades Memorial, can be seen. This was erected in 1937 to commemorate the 1931 Hawke's Bay earthquake.
