A Booklet type certificate of four pages.
It States:
The Lords of the committee of the privy council on education, hereby certify that in the month of December 1869, Emily Knowles, having been a student during 2 years in the Cheltenham Training College was examined for a certificate and placed in the 2 division of candidates of the second year. Also that the above named candidate, after having served the required period of probation in the Halesowen, Hasbury branch church of England and school, taught a class in the presence of Her Majesty's inspector of schools, who made the following report:

E Knowles exhibits considerable skill in the management of a class, maintains creditable discipline in her school and is well qualified for the office of teacher. Signed: J D Hernaman - HM Inspector.

In order that this certificate may serve as evidence of practical success it may, after a period of ten years be revised according to the character of the inspector's entries upon it. Signed: W Forster, Vice President.

There is a stamp noting that 2 years of normal training successfully completed December 1869. The other pages have room for written comments for 16 inspections, which have not been filled in.
