About this object
A photograph of the ceremonial opening of Glasgow wharf at the Port of Napier on 22 October 1895.
The wharf was the first to come off the newly constructed Breakwater.
The timber wharf was officially opened by the Governor General Lord Glasgow who is pictured wearing the top hat. Women and men stand on top of a platform decorated with signal flags strung above the platform and saplings along the side of the structure. Below the platform men and women are formally dressed and standing idly.In the right foreground a lamp is visible.
