About this object
A photograph of Napier Gas Company office decorated to celebrate the end of the South African War.
The photograph was likely taken in early June 1902 after the signing of the Treaty of Vereeniging on May 31 1902.The lighting on the front of the building reads: Brave Bobs ; Rule Britannia. A group of men are standing outside the shop which is decorated with lights, trees branches and foliage. The building appears to be on a corner site.
A man is lifting a bicycle up onto the pavement in the extreme left of the image. Houses and buildings can be seen further along the street. An apparently three legged dog stands near the entrance to the gas company offices.
