A group of volunteers on display at the Napier Recreation Ground for Queen Victoria's Diamond Jubilee celebrations on 22 June 1897.
The Recreation Ground was situated on Carlyle Street Napier.
A line of men are visible. At the left of the image men are in casual dress looking down toward the right. At the right are men in military uniform that appear to be about to fire a celebratory volley.
Above the fence line at the rear of the ground are silhouettes of spectators from outside the grounds.
