About this object
A photograph of a costume procession in the 1921 Napier Mardi Gras.

Women are walking along the street holding signs and wearing clothing dating from 1812 onwards. The signs have the date of the period of clothing worn and the business name McGruers at the top of the sign. Boys in page boy costumes are standing to their left at intervals.

Spectators are visible lining the street. Note the child in the metal framed push chair on the far side of the crowd leaning forward with interest.
In the background several houses are visible on Napier Hill.
The procession is possibly en route along Tennyson Street or the lower end of Emerson Street near Clive Square.
