A photograph of the opening of the East Coast Railway near Westshore, taken from a launch. It is believed this photograph depicts the opening of the first section of the railway from Napier to Eskdale on 14 November 1922 by Right Hon. W F Massey.
There are people on boats observing the celebrations in the foreground.
In the background there are spectators and a horse along what appears to be the railway fence line. A woman stands on top of a shed and is visible on the skyline.
