A postcard photograph taken looking down the breakwater back toward Bluff Hill and the esplanade road to the town of Napier.

Men are visible standing on the breakwater. Haulage lines are evident. A man is visible in uniform at the bottom of the photograph looking up towards the photographer.

The photograph appears to have been taken in the period between 1898 and about 1906.
