About this object
View of Hastings Street looking south, possibly taken in the late 1870s or early 1880s. In the foreground, the Masonic Hotel stands on the corner of Hastings Street and Tennyson Street. Among the other businesses that are visible along the left side of the street are P Campbell, A Eccles, R T Smythe (bookseller and stationer), the Bank of Australasia, Neal and Close (draper and clothier), John McVay (saddler and harness maker), the New Zealand Insurance Company, Cranby and Prebble (coal and timber merchants, shipping agents), H Nesbitt (grocer), and H Williams (ironmonger).
