About this object
View of Port Ahuriri and the Western Spit from Bluff Hill, Napier, possibly taken in the late 1880s or early 1890s. The intersection of Shakespeare Road and Battery Road is located on the extreme right of the photograph. The premises of T H Gifford (bottler) is located along Shakespeare Road near the base of Hospital Hill. At the end of Shakespeare Road, Waghorne Street is visible. To the left of Waghorne Street part of the harbour has been reclaimed.
In the distance, the old bridge linking West Quay and the Western Spit (Westshore) is visible in the bay. The Inner Harbour and the Kaweka Ranges are visible beyond.
