About this object
Photograph of the first ship to land at the new breakwater at Napier Port on 12 June 1893. The ship in the image is the Taviuni which loaded the Filliss' circus and menagerie, including elephants, horses and lions. Spectators are located along the breakwater.

On the right side of the photograph, a large wave crashes over the breakwater.
