View of Napier from Napier Hill looking towards Cape Kidnappers, possibly taken in the 1880s. Tennyson Street is located at the base of the hill. Among the businesses that are visible along Tennyson Street are the Union Insurance Company and C B Hoadley and Company auctioneers. Among the other businesses whose premises can be identified by the signage that appears on the building façades in the photograph are Blythe and Company (dressmaker and milliners), The Evening News, A Campbell (milliner), W L White (basket and perambulator maker), and Remington (chemist) on Emerson Street; and H Williams (ironmonger), R T Smythe (bookseller and stationer), John Higgins (butcher), R C Harding (printer), E Conroy (butcher), Knowles Warehouse, and the Caledonian Hotel on Hastings Street.

Cape Kidnappers is visible in the distance.
