About this object
A photograph of Napier Hospital taken in the 1880s.
The photograph appears to be a posed scene. Two men are on a hillock in the foreground of the image. One is seated with a leg outstretched the other is standing with his hands behind his back.
A man in a doctor's coat is standing in a sash window in the left wing of the hospital. Another man is standing in the garden in front of the right wing, apparently resting from gardening. There is a man in a top hat standing behind the front fence of the hospital.
The photograph was probably taken not long after the hospital's completion in 1880.
Photographer: Burton Brothers, Dunedin.
