About this object
View of Napier looking south from Bluff Hill towards Awatoto, possibly taken in the 1880s or 1890s. On the right side of the photograph, Napier Prison and the lighthouse are visible on the side of Bluff Hill. Beyond is the Central Business District. Along Browning Street, a two storey building is in the process of being constructed on the west end of the Athenaeum site.

The shallow lagoon is visible on the right side of the image. Cape Kidnappers is visible in the distance.

A label in the front of the album in which this photograph is located reads: Photographed by Valentine & Sons.
