About this object
A postcard photograph of the Park Island Old People's Home, Napier. The typing on the photograph reads: Old Men's Home, Parke (sic) Island, Napier, N.Z.
At the far left the reading room and library are visible. The fruit trees in front of the buildings were present prior to the Hospital Board acquiring the island and served the hospital.
The buildings were extended over the period from 1907 when the new building was officially opened and February 1931 when the Old People's Home was destroyed in the Hawke's Bay earthquake.
The photograph was taken in 1907 or 1908.
