About this object
This photograph depicts Heretaunga Street in Hastings, looking towards the Havelock Hills. The photograph was taken after the Hawke's Bay earthquake on the 3rd of February 1931. Woodward's Pharmacy can be seen on the left. The building to the right, on the corner of Market and Heretaunga Street, is the Bank of New South Wales. Continuing to the right, Griffith's Boot Company and the Bank of New Zealand are visible. The railway line and the premises of H R French can be seen in the distance.

On the right hand side of the street are: Hall's Book Shop; signage for J R MacKenzie; H J Lovell-Smith Photographer; and Phillip Schneidemann, Tailor. The roof of the Pacific Hotel is visible. Sailors are standing at the corner of Market and Heretaunga Street and in the distance Westerman and Company can be seen.
