About this object
This photograph depicts what remained of the Grand Hotel on the corner of Heretaunga Street and Station Street (later Russell Street) in Hastings after the Hawke's Bay earthquake on the 3rd of February 1931. Men can be seen searching the rubble for survivors. Heretaunga Street stretches into the distance. The Havelock Hills are visible on the extreme right.
