About this object
A photograph of a man camped in the bush in Maungaharuru Range, near Tutira. He is wearing a hat, vest and long leather boots. At his waist he sports a long knife sheathed in a leather casing.
The man appears to be holding a canister of food and approaching a fire. There are two dogs looking on in the left foreground of the image. Further up the sloping hill at the left a makeshift tent can be seen. It is made of sheeting over a wooden A frame structure.
The photograph is dated 27 December 1898.
Photographer Russell Duncan.
