About this object
A black and white photograph of Samuel Crowther posed on his horse and buggy on the Napier-Taupo Road.
In 1887 Samuel Crowther and fellow businessman William McCauley purchased the Napier-Taupo coach service. In the photograph he is wearing a hat and coat and is seated in a relaxed pose leaning back in the buggy. Another hat is on the seat next to him. It may have belonged to the photographer.
In the background of the photograph the bush is visible with dense fern growth.
