A photograph of axemen competing at the Waipukurau Agriculture and Produce Show on 22 January 1938.
The image depicted is a wood chopping contest. Men with axes are chopping logs of wood that are sitting on stumps. There are spectators along the fence line in the distance. Axemen events were very popular at Waipukurau and attracted record numbers of entries.
Behind the spectators are tents and a building.
At the right in the background is a sign reading: Wee Jimmy, Worlds Smallest Race Horse, Never Before Seen On This Showground, Shod With Golden Shoes.
