About this object
View of Parker's Chambers (1930), Herschell Street, taken prior to the Hawke's Bay earthquake in 1931. Designed by J A Louis Hay, the building is three-storeys high with a brick façade. The ground floor of the building is occupied by the Guardian Trust and Executors Company of New Zealand (trustees, attorneys and executors). Signs in the first floor windows indicate that this level is occupied by the Hawke's Bay Employers Association, the Hawke's Bay Automobile Association, the Hawke's Bay Acclimatization Society, R M Chadwick (consulting engineer), the Hawke's Bay Sheep Owners Union, the Napier Chamber of Commerce, and the Napier Rotary Club. The sites to the left and right of Parker’s Chambers appear to be vacant.
