About this object
A stereoscope photograph of Wellington, Te Aro.

The view is from Monteith's upstairs window at Dixon Street, looking north. The two hills to the left of the middle distance are probably the ones used by William Tonks in his reclamation of 1866. Tonks filled in an area of the harbour involving 13 acres, between Panama and Waring Taylor streets.

Photographer: George Dalrymple Monteith.
