About this object
This photograph depicts Heretaunga Street in Hastings after the Hawke's Bay earthquake on the 3rd of February 1931. Fallen bricks from a collapsed building, possibly the Grand Hotel, has crushed a car in the foreground and there are people in the street in the distance.

The Hastings Hotel can be seen in the background on the left. This was situated on the corner of Heretaunga Street and Railway Road. Next to this building is Baird's Drapers and Outfitters.
