This photograph depicts Westerman's sample rooms, located behind the store on Eastbourne Street, Hastings, taken after the Hawkes Bay earthquake on the 3rd of February 1931. The sample rooms were used as a food depot for the rescue workers a day after the earthquake.
A sign above the door reads: Digging Parties Only.
