About this object
This photograph depicts the Community Shops, more commonly referred to as Tin Town, erected in Napier's Memorial and Clive Squares after the Hawke's Bay earthquake devastated central Napier on the 3rd of February 1931. Thirty-two shops were opened in Clive Square and twenty-two in Memorial Square. The buildings were constructed out of wood with corrugated iron roofs. The complex opened on the 16th of March.
