In the foreground of the picture are the Simmonds family. Mavis Simmonds is seated wearing a dress and bonnet in the foreground at the left. Next to her Charles Simmonds is pictured side on. He is looking at the camera as he takes a bite of cake. Further along in the foreground and partially blurred is Flo Simmonds, Mavis' mother. She holds a child on her lap. There are other picnic goers in the background eating in the shade of the trees. There are several men's hats on a two tiered tree stump in the background of the image.
