Brief Description
Third Class (steerage) Passengers' Contract Ticket issued to Samuel Smith, aged 16, for passage on board the steam ship, Coptie, of the Shaw, Savill and Albion Company, Limited.

The Coptie was to set sail for New Zealand on 11 July 1889, but according to Samuel Smith's ticket he was to depart at Hobart, Tasmania. The price of his ticket was £16.16.0.

The ticket also lists the weekly provision supplies for an adult passenger and the available substitutions of other food products.

Attached to the reverse of the ticket are newspaper clippings of poems and articles titled as follows: Moses Isaac Swift, The Oddities of Parsons and My Lad.

The ticket is printed and handwritten in ink on paper and has been mounted on black card. Newspaper cuttings are glued to the reverse of the black card.
