This photograph depicts Browning Street before the demolition of the Athenaeum, which is thought to have taken place around 1934. On the left side of the photograph is the Napier Courthouse and to the right of this the Athenaeum. The premises of the South British Insurance Company can be seen to the right, and down Browning Street towards Hastings Street, Williams and Kettle Ltd.
