About this object
View of Marine Parade taken from the esplanade near the Hawke’s Bay Club, possibly in the 1940s. In the foreground is a grassed area surrounded by a low stone wall and gardens planted with trees and shrubs. Among the buildings that are visible along Marine Parade are the Napier Courthouse (designed by William Henry Clayton, completed 1875), the Borough Council Chambers (built 1874), and the Masonic Hotel (designed by Prouse & Wilson, completed 1932). Further along Marine Parade, the T & G Building designed by Atkin & Mitchell (completed 1936-37) is just visible through the trees.
