About this object
View of repairs to the East Coast Railway Line taken in the aftermath of the 1938 flash flood. The photograph records the process of reconstructing one of the railway bridges, possibly over the Kopuawhara Stream near Māhia, or in the Esk Valley. Pictured is a group of men working with a pulley system. The mechanism uses a large weight to force foundations into the ground. Behind the pulley system is a rail wagon.

Photographer, unknown.
