About this object
A photograph of the T & G Building under construction on Emerson Street, Napier.
The photograph is taken from Marine Parade looking across at the building on its corner site.
The building was constructed from 1935 to 1936 so this photograph was likely taken during this time. The building is covered in scaffolding and workmen are visible at the peak of the building and at the top right of the scaffolding.
The South African War Memorial is visible in the foreground in its earlier position. The memorial is missing the soldier on top, which was dislodged during the 1931 earthquake and later restored at its current location.
The corner of the Masonic Hotel is visible at the right of the image.
Photographer: Dave Williams.
