About this object
View of Marine Parade from the T & G Building looking north towards Bluff Hill thought to have been taken in 1936.

In the foreground is the South African War Memorial (1906). The statue of the soldier that originally stood on the plinth is absent. Behind the memorial is the intersection of Marine Parade, Tennyson Street and Herschell Street. On the corner of the intersection stands the Borough Council Chambers (built 1874).

On the opposite side of Marine Parade, the street is lined with mature Norfolk Island Pines. The tree in the foreground has been decorated with lights. The skating rink and the Tom Parker Fountain (built 1936) are just visible behind the trees on the left. Motor cars and buses can be seen parked along Marine Parade. The base of Bluff Hill is visible in the distance.
