About this object
An image illustrating repairs to the Waitangi Bridge that spans the Tutaekuri River.

The photograph shows the welding of metal with concrete surrounds. A person’s hand is visible near the metal cross hatching holding the welding gun head.

The repairs were required after severe flooding of the region in April 1938. Four spans of the bridge subsided and the river bed was scoured by the waters to a depth of 12.19 metres. The repairs to Waitangi Bridge cost £10,746.
