About this object
An image of men unloading drain pipes from a cart in a Hawke’s Bay Street. This image is thought to be linked to post earthquake recovery following the 1931 Hawke’s Bay earthquake.

The pipes are on the cart in front of residential houses. It appears the pipes will be rolled down the supports in place from the cart to the road surface but in the image they remain strapped together.

The houses in the background are wooden villas. There are children on the roof on the house at the left side of the image.
