This photograph depicts the main grandstand at the Hastings Racecourse after the Hawke's Bay earthquake on the 3rd of February 1931.

The main grandstand was badly damaged in the earthquake. This photograph depicts cracks in the brickwork at the basement level of the main grandstand.

The photographer is thought to be Frank L Moodie, architect.
