About this object
View of Marine Parade from Bluff Hill looking towards Cape Kidnappers. The beach and the Municipal Baths (opened 1909) are visible on the extreme left. On the right side of the photograph is the intersection of Marine Parade and Byron Street. The Clive Flood Memorial stands on the corner of the intersection. Among the buildings that are visible along Marine Parade are the Hawke’s Bay Club (designed by Walter Phillip Finch, built 1906), the Napier Courthouse (designed by William Henry Clayton, completed 1875), the Borough Council Chambers (built 1874), and the Masonic Hotel. The seaward side of Marine Parade is lined with Norfolk Island Pines. Horse drawn carriages can be seen travelling along Marine Parade. The Athenaeum and the County Council building are visible along Browning Street.
