This photograph depicts the Union Bank on Heretaunga Street, Hastings, after the Hawke's Bay earthquake on the 3rd of February 1931.
Completed in 1915, the building was designed in late Victorian style by Charles Natusch. It was made of brick and reinforced steel.
The building survived the quake, but was devastated by fire. Bracing can be seen on the interior of the building pending reconditioning.
The photographer is thought to be Frank L Moodie, architect.
