This photograph depicts the Municipal Theatre on Hastings Street in Hastings after the Hawke's Bay earthquake on the 3rd of February 1931.
Designed by Henry Eli White, the Municipal Theatre was built in 1915. The Theatre is noted as being one of the earliest examples of Spanish Mission style architecture in New Zealand and for having a lavish Art Nouveau interior.
The theatre was damaged by the earthquake.
The photographer is thought to be Frank L Moodie, architect.
